Heraklith’s expanding portfolio of solutions

Heraklith continues to showcase a growing collection of innovative solutions for architects and specifiers. In the past 12 months, seven important case studies have been added to our portfolio.

Underground and indoor parking garages

One of the traditional and most widely used applications for Heraklith wood wool panels is to provide highly effective levels of acoustic insulation for indoor and underground car parks. The panels also provide the homes or offices above with good thermal insulation for increased living comfort.

An important part of the choice to use Heratekta wood wool combi panels for a new residential project in the picturesque town of 's-Gravendeel in the western Netherlands, was the natural hue of the wood and the sustainable nature of this residential project. Heraklith wood wool panels are ideal for projects with sustainability certification such as BREEAM, WELL and LEED.

In Mitros, Utrecht, Heratekta wood wool panels and Tektalan A2 combi-panels with rock mineral wool, were chosen to finish the concrete floors above the parking spaces, the underpass and balconies of a modern apartment complex. The panels provided a particularly eco-friendly solution as they are manufactured from natural and sustainable materials. All the panels are made from certified wood.

For the construction of a private underground car park for some exclusive and upmarket homes in the German town of Neuburg an der Donau, Tektalan A2-Lumax, Tektalan A2-Lumax L, Heraklith concrete screws DDS plus, LED recessed panels were used to offer first-class fire protection and to provide effective insulation against heat loss and sound. LED lamps were integrated directly into the wood wool multilayer board, making any additional lighting unnecessary.

In Barnsley, United Kingdom, we were challenged to find a soffit liner that could achieve the required thermal performance in the parking area of a new shopping leisure and business complex, but without impacting on the available height. Heraklith, Heratekta and Herafoam products provided the solution. Our wood wool boards offered the perfect synergy of a lightweight aesthetic finishing whilst delivering the required thermal performance at the same time.

We were also able to guarantee fast installation. Not only because of the incredibly fast delivery times, but also because of the ease of installation. As the panels have a tongue and groove they can be mounted with fewer screws per panel, thus saving the construction team hours of installation time.

Residential buildings

From Munich, Germany, comes an excellent example of how Heraklith Tektalan A2-FP/HB panels were combined with similarly non-combustible materials, to form easily assembled prefabricated sections for the construction of additional living space above some existing apartment buildings.

During the refurbishment of the buildings, attics previously used as storage space under the flat gable roofs, were converted into additional apartments.

In addition to very good fire protection, which qualifies the facade as a solution for use in class 4 buildings with a height of up to 13 m, the system has an advanced U-value of 0.17 W / (m²·K). Furthermore, the excellent soundproofing properties of the wood wool multilayer panels are certainly appreciated by the residents, living just 20 kilometres from Munich Airport.

Schools

When the award-winning Czech Republic Architectural firm, Vllnna, was awarded the contract to design an extension to a school canteen in Radotin it was not surprising that it would be constructed to very high ecological and environmental standards. Vllnna has an enviable reputation for designing fine timber properties.

Serving more than 1200 lunches a day, the canteen can be lively so one of the primary requirements for the extension was that it should have excellent acoustics. All the materials used also needed to meet very high standards of fire safety.

The solution was to use Heraklith® Tektalan A2 panels which combine wood wool with a rock mineral wool insulation. This best-in-class Heraklith panel has outstanding fire-resistance, and thermal and acoustic performance.

Restaurants, bars, and entertainment facilities

In Malaga, Spain, Heraklith’s ceiling panels were used in harmony with top Japanese cuisine to reflect the uncluttered, calm and soft environment of the Ta-Kumi Japanese Gastro-Bar Restaurant. Heraklith panels were chosen as they blend perfectly with the authentic furnishings whilst also playing an important role in providing the excellent acoustics for a comfortable dining atmosphere.

These case studies showcase just a few examples of the many thousands of applications in which Heraklith panels are used every year. For more examples, please see our full collection of references and case studies. If you would like to know more, please contact us.
